Nathanael Lacaria, FNP-BC

Family Nurse Practitioner located in Denver, CO

About Nathanael Lacaria

I was born and raised in Bridgeport, West Virginia and saw firsthand the fallout of the opiate epidemic. I was determined to never become the type of provider who went for an “easy fix” when it came to providing patient care. But as someone who personally deals with chronic pain, I know how distracting, debilitating, and life-stealing dealing with pain can be. This has sent me on a journey of the last 5 years of trying to find the “right” set of tools to help patients manage their pain, regain their function, and get their life back.

I am the first person in my large, extended family to enter healthcare, and I’ve spent the last decade of my life exploring just about every avenue of care I can get into. What started as a part-time job a pharmacy technician led to me exploring multiple other healthcare avenues. I also worked as a personal trainer, physical therapy aid, and shadowed several hospital specialties before I decided to become a nurse, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

In these last 5 years, I have explored pain and function from any angle I can. I’ve worked with and learned from palliative care providers who specialized in using medication to manage pain: Acupuncturists who approach pain from an Eastern philosophy and treat it as spiritual imbalance; psychological therapists who believed pain could be conquered by the mind and used resiliency training to help people overcome and redeem their pain; physical therapists that restore function through movement; and chiropractors that address pain through restoring mobility of the spine and/or extremities through manipulation which impacts the nervous system. I’ve learned excellent things from all of them and am now confident that I have a growing, well-equipped tool belt, which I can use to help my patients.

I came to work at Balance Wellspace because I believe in our treatment philosophy and think we have one of the most comprehensive approaches to restoring function of any clinic that I know of. I am excited to come to work each day and to see the rapid progress that our patients make. I love seeing them realize that they can return to living life to the fullest and be able to things that they thought had become all but impossible!

I’ve been married to my beautiful wife Kristin since 2008, and we journeyed to Colorado together from the East Coast in 2009. I enjoy weightlifting, hiking, and biking.
